Map showing where the proteins are from

At Laila and Me, we get asked a lot about where our proteins are sourced from, and rightly so. When it comes to feeding your dog high-quality, ethically sourced treats, transparency matters.

Here’s where our proteins come from, and what makes them better for your dog and the planet.

🐊 Crocodile & 🐖 Wild Boar – Far North Queensland

Far North Queensland is home to some of the most unique proteins in our range. Wild, nutrient-dense, and sustainably sourced.

We take crocodile meat, feet, and tail tips that are left over from the human leather industry. This meat is typically discarded after the skins are processed. Instead of letting it go to landfill, we turn this lean, omega-rich protein into high-value treats for dogs. It’s a no-waste solution that supports better use of existing resources, and as a novel protein, it’s also a great option for pets with allergies or sensitivities.

Wild boar, while technically a cousin of domesticated pork, is a different beast entirely. It’s leaner, higher in protein, and richer in essential nutrients like zinc, iron, and omega-3s. Unlike conventional pork, which can be fatty and intensively farmed, wild boar is naturally free-range, feeding on a diverse diet of roots, plants, and nuts. That makes it not only more flavourful, but also a healthier, more ethical protein source for dogs.

Plus, it’s an invasive species in Australia, so every boar treat supports environmental pest control and helps reduce damage to native habitats.

    🐖 Pork & 🦃 Turkey – Queensland

Our pork and turkey come from trusted farms in Queensland that prioritise ethical farming practices.

Turkey is a lean, easily digestible protein that’s perfect for dogs with sensitive tummies or weight concerns. Pork, on the other hand, offers a richer chew and is a great source of amino acids and B vitamins.

    🦘 Kangaroo, 🐔 Chicken, 🐇 Rabbit, 🦌 Venison, 🦆 Duck & 🐦 Emu – Victoria

Victoria is home to many of our single-protein stars.

We work closely with ethical suppliers and licensed harvesters to source:

    • Kangaroo and rabbit, wild-harvested and minimally processed
    • Chicken, duck, venison, and emu, from small-scale and ethical Victorian farms

Our rabbit, in particular, is worth a closer look. With over 100 million wild rabbits damaging native ecosystems in Australia, responsible harvesting is essential. We only source from farms that avoid poisons and follow strict hygiene protocols. Each rabbit is deep-frozen for six weeks to neutralise parasites before being dehydrated to human-grade standards. It’s sustainable, safe, and incredibly nutritious.

    🐟 Pilchards – South Australia

Small but mighty, pilchards are wild caught off the South Australian coast. These little fish are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which support your dog’s joint, skin, and cognitive health. They’re also a more sustainable seafood choice compared to larger predatory fish, due to their fast reproduction rates and low position in the marine food chain.

    🐟 Salmon – Tasmania

Our salmon hails from the cold, clean waters of Tasmania. High in essential fatty acids, it supports glossy coats, healthy skin, and joint mobility. We gently freeze-dry it to preserve its nutrients without needing additives or fillers, it’s a treat that’s as wholesome as it is delicious.

    Why Sourcing Matters

When you choose Laila and Me, you’re not just choosing a delicious treat, you’re choosing transparency, sustainability, and better animal welfare standards.

    Every protein we use is:

    • Ethically sourced (no shady suppliers or mystery meats here)
    • Minimally processed to retain nutritional value
    • Sustainably selected, often using byproducts that would otherwise go to waste

Because better treats start with better ingredients, and your dog deserves nothing less! Still have questions about how we source our products? Just ask! We’ve got nothing to hide, and everything to be proud of.
