Medium to large dogs can take one whole. For smaller dogs, snap it into pieces; it breaks cleanly. Crunchy, not rubbery, so it won't drag out. Supervise your dog, especially if they're the type to just swallow things whole.
Air-dried bones and cooked bones behave very differently. Air-dried bones are designed to crunch and break down; cooked bones are what splinter. That said, always supervise your dog, particularly if they're a fast eater.

Break into smaller pieces to use as a high-value training reward, or give a whole piece for a longer chewing session. Feed 1-2 pieces per day depending on your dog's size, and count it toward their daily food intake. Always supervise your dog while they chew.
